1889 SERGEANT'S SWORD
A very good condition sword with 32 3/4 inch blade in near mint condition, and gilded brass hilt with Crowned VR. The only marking is a small Broad Arrow and WD on the hilt beneath the leather washer. Wire bound fish kin grip complete. Iron scabbard with faint Broad Arrow and WD on throat. 35 inch blade with broad and narrow fuller, engraved with Turks Head, two Cavalrymen and other motifs. Back edge with maker - J.J.Runkel, Sohlingen. DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY 1897 INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD
The sword of Captain H.G.Faber, who departed for France with the 5th Battalion in 1915. He was present at the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915, The Somme 1916, Arras and Passchendaele in 1917. He became a Major in 1918. Blade length of 32 1/4 inches engraved with Family Crest and H.G.F., Royal Arms, Crowned ER VII, foliage and retailer - Samuel Brothers. Back edge marked London Made, and numbered 1115. Plated hilt with Crowned ER VII and with wire bound fishskin grip. Sword bag marked H.G. Faber, Norton-On-Tees, 10th. Oct 1906. A rare Victorian 1895 pattern sword with 32 1/2 inch blade engraved with Crowned Grenade with St. George, VR, foliage, Crowned Rose and Motto, Lion on Crown over Northumberland Fusiliers and V. Also battle honours from Peninsula to Afghanistan 1879-80. Made by E. Thurkle, Soho, London. Plated hilt with Crowned VR and raised Flaming Grenade with St. George.
